THE ROLEThis is an international consulting role supporting government and foreign institutional clients (sovereign and strategic enterprise). Command Group Associates are embedded with overseas project teams supporting high-impact defense and security transformation initiatives.The role is execution-heavy and centers on converting senior inputs into decision-ready, executive-caliber deliverables – particularly PowerPoint-based briefing products and supporting memos. You will work day-to-day with Command Group engagement leadership and may interface with 1099 Senior Country Advisors (Flag Officers/SES) who provide senior counsel and client-context support.This role requires living overseas for extended periods, with periodic return travel to the U.S. consistent with company PTO policy and program requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Synthesize inputs from senior military, civilian, and consulting leaders into clear findings and recommendations
- Build decision-focused narratives for sovereign/institutional stakeholders, including options and trade-offs
- Produce executive-quality deliverables – especially visually compelling PowerPoint decks – for senior decision forums
- Draft executive read-aheads, decision memos, and meeting briefs to complement slide-based outputs
- Structure problems using consulting methods (issue trees/logic, hypotheses, assumptions, evidence) and maintain analytic traceability
- Conduct and synthesize structured research (stakeholder mapping, capability baselining, gap analysis) to support recommendations
- Convert leadership direction and workshop outputs into executable workplans (workstreams, owners, timelines, risks, dependencies)
- Support workshops, briefings, and leadership sessions (agenda support, facilitation support, live capture, rapid synthesis)
- Maintain delivery discipline: action registers, decision logs, milestone tracking, and follow-through under tight timelines
- Produce program assurance artifacts (RAID logs, risk registers, dependency tracking, executive dashboards) and maintain rigorous version control/knowledge management
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Former or current U.S. military officer (O-3 through O-5) or equivalent experience in defense/national security consulting at the consultant/senior consultant level
- Demonstrated ability to produce executive-ready written products
- Advanced PowerPoint: executive storytelling, clean visual design, and rapid iteration under deadline
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills; able to translate complex inputs into decision-grade outputs
- Comfort engaging with senior leaders and operating with professional discretion in sensitive environments
- Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and deliver high-quality work on tight timelines
- Demonstrated proficiency using commercial generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to accelerate research, synthesis, drafting, and quality assurance – within confidentiality and governance constraints
- Willingness and ability to live overseas for extended periods and travel as required by program cadence
HIGHLY DESIRED EXPERIENCE- Military intelligence, force development/future force, strategy, or plans background
- Defense, national security, or management consulting experience (strategy, transformation, or program delivery)
- Joint, inter agency, multinational, or coalition experience; comfort operating in sovereign/international client environments
- Workshop support experience: agenda build, facilitation support, live capture, and synthesis into executive-ready outputs
- Program management/PMO experience in transformation environments: action tracking, dependencies, RAID logs, executive dashboards
- Experience with defense capability planning and/or operating model work (governance, org design, process, performance management)
